THE VITALITY SERIES

The Energy Secret You've Been Overlooking.

A Note from experience and research

In the pursuit of peak performance, we often think more intensity is better. But real vitality—the kind that carries you through a New York afternoon without fatigue—is built at a conversational pace. Welcome to the power of Zone 2 training.

This isn't about crushing yourself. It's about building your mitochondrial density, the literal engines of your cells. When these engines are robust, you recover faster, sleep better, and move through life with a stamina that feels effortless.

At Just Train, a lot of my clients wear devices that show their heart rate. They often notice that while weight training their heart rate is elevated into Zone 2. That is roughly 60-70% of heart rate max. (the wearables calculate this zone based on resting heart rate, VO2max and age.)

This is by design. The benefits of zone 2 training:

  • More and better-functioning mitochondria — improves your muscles’ ability to generate energy aerobically.

  • Improved fat oxidation — your body becomes better at using fatty acids for fuel during lower-to-moderate intensity exercise.

  • Better cardiovascular efficiency — increased stroke volume and improved oxygen delivery to working muscle.

  • Greater aerobic endurance — you can sustain activity longer before fatigue accumulates.

  • Higher lactate clearance capacity — improves your ability to process lactate and helps support performance at higher intensities.

  • Improved metabolic health — regular aerobic exercise can improve insulin sensitivity, blood glucose regulation, and triglyceride metabolism.

  • Supports VO₂ max — Zone 2 builds the aerobic foundation, although higher-intensity work is generally more potent for directly increasing VO₂ max.

  • Low fatigue relative to the benefit — you can accumulate substantial cardiovascular training volume without interfering with strength/hypertrophy training as much as frequent HIIT can.

Zone 2 For Total Vitality

One of the most effective ways to feel better day to day.
